Summer break is almost here! Celebrate the end of the school year by taking a break from your usual curriculum. Your students will love these activities as a reward for all of their hard work throughout the year.
What better way to celebrate the end of the school year but with a party? Get creative and incorporate a camping or picnic theme, a luau, a carnival, or a talent show.
2. Bingo
Take a break and relive moments from the past school year with a spin off of this classic game. Download your free bingo card templates and have your students find a classmate who matches the description in each box. The first person to fill 5 in a row wins.
End the school year with a self-esteem boosting gift for your students. Give each student a sheet of paper with every classmate’s name on it. Ask them to write a nice sentence about everyone. Collect the papers and cut out all of the statements. Frame each student’s statements into their very own frame.
4. Summer-Themed Writing Prompts
These writing activities are made fun with themes like a sand pail with the prompt “My summer bucket list of fun things I want to do this summer” and a beach ball with the prompt “I’m going to have a ball doing _______________ with ________________.
Tap into your students’ creativity while getting them to share things they learned and enjoyed doing during the school year. Ask them to write their grade level and “memories” in the center of the Memory Wheel (i.e. “6th Grade Memories”). Then in each section, have them write and draw about the things they enjoyed the most during the year. Save the wheels for the beginning of next year as a way for incoming students to see what they have to look forward to in the new year.
